Barcoding a Single Volume Monograph Using the Replace Barcode Wizard or Retrospective Barcoding

Single Volume monographs without a barcode label are represented in Unicorn by a dummy record. To barcode these titles the dummy ID needs to be replaced with an actual barcode ID.

1) Click onthe Change Item Barcode Wizard on the Circulation toobar (Click on the open book icon (Item Information and Maintenance Group), then the barcoe icon). Note that the circulation students don't have access to this Wizard nor is it on their toolbar. If you are at the circulation desk, change the toolbar and use the override "BARCODEIT."

2) Search for the item and view the vol./copy.

3) Compare call number to spine of the book. If the book is part of a multi-volume set or a serial, it can't be barcoded in this manner. Ask a cataloger to assist you. Any additional information on the spine other than location or copy number may indicate that the tilte is a multi-volume set or a serial.

4) Select the copy to be barcoded and click on Change Barcode or Selected Copy. The copy selected shouldhave a dummy ID, which has a hyphen. An actual barcode ID number on Workflows instead of a dummy ID, be sure to look in the item for the barcode. It may have been placed under the pocket part or on the last printed page (either side).

5) Place the barcode label on the inside back cover of the book, unless there is a slot for a poclet part. In this case place the barcode on the opposite side.

6) Enter the barcode number accurately in Workflows and click OK.
