Wishing to Check out Court Records
from the LSU Law Center Library
Loan period
Louisiana appellate and Supreme Court records and briefs may be checked out from the Law Library for a period of twenty days. The circulation period begins on the date that the record is mailed.
Making requests
The preferred mode of request is via email directed to the attention of Melanie Sims (melanie.sims@law.lsu.edu). Requests may also be faxed to 225-578-5773. The fax should be on official letterhead and include
• The name of the case requested.
• The appellate or Supreme Court docket number. (We cannot locate records by the local judicial district docket number.)
• The requesting party=s Federal Express account number.
• A written agreement that the requesting party will be responsible for returning the records within the loan period.
Attorneys must also include
Their bar roll numbers
Receipt of requests
Requests must be received no later than noon on Tuesdays. Requests received after that time will be held for retrieval on Tuesday of the following week. Instantaneous filling of orders will no longer be possible, and we will not accept telephone requests.

Renewing records
Renewal requests should include the court, case name, and docket number information included in the original request. Renewals may be emailed to the attention of Melanie E. Sims (melanie.sims@law.lsu.edu) or faxed to 225-578-5773.

Court Record Pick-Up Spot
Court records to be looked at and/or picked up -- will be on the table behind the reference desk.
The records should be on the table with a note on them. The note will bear the name of the person checking out the record.
If the note says "in-library use", Melanie would prefer the record not to leave the library until the patron has talked to the librarian at the reference desk or to Melanie. Check with Melanie (8-8815) first if possible.
